I’m off to Italy next week, so i thought i’d share a bit of my routine with you guys.
For me the most important thing before going away has to be hair removal, I like to do it the day before so I am sure it will last the whole holiday. I normally dont have the time to go and get a full wax, so i’ll usually just invest in a good razor for sensitive skin and a shaving cream to do it myself. I know more and more women are feeling liberated and no longer feel the need to remove all their hair, which i have nothing but big respect for, but i personally always feel better and ready for a summer holiday once my legs are super smooth and ‘beach ready. Also don’t forget to do your eyebrows for all those makeup-free beach selfies. I recommend the Reflections of me tweezers for this job, they offer great precision for a neat brow in the comfort of your own home.
If you have time for a face-mask, i’d highly recommend doing one or two leading up to your holiday. They leave your face feeling fresh and moisturised, which is handy as summer holidays tend to suck the moisture out of your skin. I’ve been using the Lush mask of Magnaminty which is great for combating breakouts and leaving your skin feeling nourished and refreshed.
I am super pale, so the idea of getting in a bikini without any tan is a little daunting! So, a few days prior i begin to use an overnight tinted moisturiser to give me more of a healthy glow. (Remember to give it a day after shaving before applying the tan!)
I use the Dove – medium to dark summer revived lotion, which i have used for years and 100% swear by. In my opinion, it’s a fautless product, it applies well and doesn’t have that fake tan smell that is usually associated with tanning products.
I also recently picked up the Zoella body fondant – shimmer balm, with holiday in mind. It’s a light, magical shimmer that looks perfect on top of a holiday glow.
Whether you head to the salon or DIY your mani/pedi, pop your chosen colour in your luggage to top up any chips whilst you’re away! if you’re someone who tans easily why not show off your tan with a pop of neon or keep things classic with more nude shades.
A friend at work told me to pack bug spray, as Venice has a lot of midges. So, if like me, you’re heading to a country where you’ll be wearing a strong bug spray then i’d opt for a gel manicure, as the ingredients in mosquito repellent can sometimes melt off your nail vanish!
Stocking up and packing.
The weekend before I’m due to travel, you’ll usually find me lurking in a supermarket and in the beauty aisles of Superdrug and boots, stocking up on the holiday essentials.
First up, Sun cream. Nivea, is and probably always will be, my go to brand for suncreams. As i mentioned above, i have fair skin so i usually stock up on the high factor lotions. As it’s incredibly hot in Italy at the moment i will likely get the Nivea sun cream spray in a factor 30+.
Another thing i like to purchase to pack in my carry on is travel minis. Shampoos, conditioners, shower gels and tooth pastes, they are the ideal size, take up little room and are perfect for a quick freshen up on the plane. For summer holiday’s i tend to pick up shampoos that have scents of coconut or mango, something i associate with the sunshine and a beach. Don’t ask me why, it’s just something iv’e always done!
Finally, I recently I got sent a beauty essentials package from Reflections of me which included, tweezers, eye lash curlers, makeup sponges and a beautiful makeup brush set. Perfect timing and such a great brand for these kind of bits. ROM actually specialise in bespoke mirrors, however alongside this they also sell beauty related products. I am really impressed with the quality of each product i was sent, especially the makeup brush set. It is super inexpensive and includes 12 brushes! Not to mention the fact they come in an adorable storage tin that is PEEERFECT for holiday packing!
Unlike most people, i actually really enjoy packing (I know, i must be weird!) but it really gets me excited and in the mood for holiday.
For carry on, you are usually allowed one carry on sized suitcase (max = 22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm) and one ‘personal item.’ Your personal item can be a purse, backpack, or smaller bag. I tend to go for a small backpack.
I picked up this backpack (which i’m a little obsessed with, and yes, shock horror, it’s yellow!) from Urban outfitters. As far as a back-pack goes, I love that this one has a zipper pouch on the front that I can stick my passport, boarding pass, and money in for easy access.
Inside my backpack, I fit my laptop, a book (or two), my phone charger, computer charger, makeup-bag, face wipes, travel minis (shampoo, conditioner etc) and a toothbrush. I also tend to pack a spare pair of undies, a T-shirt and a bikini just incase my suitcase decides to go walkabouts!
Hope you enjoyed this post.
Have you got any trips planned?
* ROM kindly sent me the items mentioned – all my thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
