BLOGMAS 1 – A life changing gift

For my first Blogmas post, I wanted to write about something a little bit different.

Whilst my other blog posts leading up to Christmas will be all about decorating your home, getting in the festive spirit, and my gift guides to help you buy the perfect present for someone who has everything; this post is about giving a gift that could honestly change someone’s life.

CBM are an international Christian disability and development organisation, that aims to transform the lives of disabled people in the world’s poorest communities. They work with them to break down barriers by delivering practical support, improving policy and practice and inspiring the people of the UK to act.

This incredible charity’s vision is to have an inclusive world in which all people with disabilities enjoy their human rights and achieve their full potential. Now, I’ll confess when I first read up about their aim, and what they do, I welled up and was completely taken back by it.

Every year, they help over 30 million people living with, and at risk of disabilities in more than 60 countries worldwide! not to mention….

Vaileth and Susana, aged 4 and 5, live with their grandmother, Fausta, and another young cousin in a small mud house in Tanzania. Fausta first noticed that something was wrong with both her granddaughters’ eyes when they were only a few months old.

They struggled to pick up things that were right in front of them, and as they got older found simple every day tasks harder to do. When Fausta heard that CBM’s partner hospital was running free eye screenings to identify people with sight problems, she took the girls along and they identified that they had cataracts.

The hospital arranged for transport for Fausta and the two girls to hospital for cataract surgery, under general anaesthetic. The surgery and transport was funded by CBM supporters, as the family have no money to spare.

“Now they can see better, I hope the girls can go to school to get an education so they can live a better life. Thank you so much.”

From as little as £12 you can purchase a gift on the Give Joy gift shop that will substantially help the lives of those living with disabilities in the poorest parts of the world.

Christmas over the years has undoubtedly become more and more commercialised, meaning its easy for us to lose sight of what is important. We can take for granted how lucky we are to have a home, a roof over our heads, a table of food, and the most importantly, the ability to see and hear our loved ones.

This is a priceless gift that you can give someone this Christmas, thanks to CRM’s gift shop…
